90's Zelda rap / dance video

I was looking at digg yesterday and read about the Japanese Legend of Zelda commercial that came out in the early 90's. It's a fun video, to be sure, but I haven't seen anyone identify who provided the music for the commericial.

Oddly enough, I recognize who it is (I think).

It sounds a lot like Scha Dara Parr, a Japanese rap group from the late 80's and early 90's. My sister Karen, who has always influenced my taste in music, gave me a tape of them back when I was still an undergrad.

If you haven't seen it yet, here is the video:

The digg article, which includes links to other download locations: http://digg.com/gaming/80_s_Japanese_Zelda_Commerical

Scha Dara Parr info:

The first link actually mentions the Zelda commercial and says that the song "Game Boys" was used for it. I haven't heard the song in awhile, but I don't think it's "Game Boys". Given the lyrics to the song here, it seems pretty clear that the song was specifically made for the commercial.

  1. Just to confirm, very briefly near the beginning of the video, it says onscreen who the music is by (in Japanese), and it is indeed Scha Dara Parr.

  2. Fantastic. Now I'll have to somehow find a copy of the original. It has to exist somewhere somehow in some way.

  3. The song is by Scha Dara Parr. The group was approached to do the video with a remake of their song Game Boys with alternative lyrics that talk about the Super Famicom and the return of Zelda.

  9. I'm not familiar with 90s music, but isn't "The Legend of Zelda" the greatest video game of all time? When I worked at a WordPress Development Company, they had such a welcoming environment on their platform, and they used to play this music all the time, and it brings back so many memories.

  10. In it we hear Japanese rap, everyone dancing in unison, and I'm pretty sure Link switches from female to a male once the dancing ends.

  13. It's possible that Scha Dara Parr provided the music for the Japanese Legend of Zelda commercial, but without an official confirmation or statement from the group or the creators of the commercial, it's hard to say for sure. The fact that the first link you provided mentions the group and a specific song used in the commercial is certainly intriguing, but as you pointed out, the lyrics to that song don't seem to match up with the commercial.

It's not uncommon for commercials to use music that was specially created for the ad, so it's entirely possible that the music in the Zelda commercial was composed specifically for that purpose. However, it's also possible that the creators of the commercial used an existing song or hired a different composer altogether.

Without further information or confirmation, it's difficult to say definitively who provided the music for the commercial. let's talk
